Retirement !
Hello everyone!
We've had a cloudy, rainy, stomy, windy weekend with more to come! I know my yard really needs to be picked up! As I am writing this I see storm clouds in front of me and blue sky and sun shine to the left. So the weather continues to be confused!
During my wonderful 20 day vacation down the coast of Mexico and Central America and through the Panma Canal I thought a great deal about the shop, my wonderful staff, and my life. I have decided to retire and sell the shop. This is a huge decision for me, and is not taken lightly. On February 3rd, 1969 I began working as a childrens librarian for West Covina Library, County of Los Angeles, and I have worked continously since with the exception of 3 weeks in 1984. And I am 64 1/2. So work has been a major part of my life, and now I want to play!
Bob and I opened the shop October 12, 1992, (Columbus Day), and we loved having the Calico Cat and other Fine Fabrics which in 2000 became the Calico Cat & Bernina too! I love the quilting atmosphere (and of course I love fabric!) and I have appreciated being a part of the Bernina family. I enjoyed the 10 years of running the Western Washington Quilt Shop Hop, and the 5 years Karen Shifton and I operated Doll Universtiy. I have had a lot of opportunities! I was grateful to have the shop when Bob got cancer and then passed away, as it gave me a reason to smile and be happy. I plan on making more quilts, traveling a little, seeing my family and grandchildren more, volunteer locally, and see a special man who walked into my life on my trip. My children are really very supportive of my decision, which makes it easier.
Beginning Thursday, November 12th the entire inventory will be on sale: when you purchase a Calico Cat bag for $5.00 anything you can put in the bag will be 15% off! For all of our internet customers, the same will occur. Your discounts will be taken at our register. Remember, over $100.00 shipping is free!!! And sometimes our bags can expand - so come in and see what will fit in your bag!
Fixtures are priced as marked; some may be immediately available and some later. We will continue to take all credit cards, cash and checks.
We will continue our hours open with the exception of the Thanksgiving weekend. Wednesday before Thanksgiving we will close at 3pm; all day Thanksgiving we will be closed; Friday we will be open 12-8pm, Saturday, 10-5; and Sunday 11-4. We will accept punch cards, but will not be punching cards. We will also have some great prizes in the shop for you to win - for every $25.00 you spend, you'll get a ticket to put in the merchandise of your choice. Prizes will change randomly.
Classes will continue through January. Please make sure you have the supplies you need for classes. We will continue to have basic quilting notions, but we will not be taking any special orders. Special orders already written will be ordered for you. These special orders will be 15% off, regardless of when you pick it up.
Sewing machines, embroidery machines, and sergers, will continue to be sold at this years Puyallup Fair prices, which in some cases are already 40% off of the MSRP. We will continue to order feet and Bernina supplies. We will have a number of sewing machine classes in December and January to meet your needs with your machine purchase. We believe you can be very confident of any machine purchase you make with us in the next couple of months.
It has been a pleasure to assist you in the shop throughout the years, and a pleasure to have many of you as friends. Thank you for 17 wonderful years!
